Basking Area Platforms
Basking area choices are very important because your dragon will spend most of its day lounging on this decoration. You should always use a cave, rock, log etc that is made for reptiles and therefor is made to withstand high heat. I suggest natural smooth stone or store bought platforms like ZooMed's, National Geographic or Exo Terra's as they are made to be reptile safe for withstanding heat. Though with wood basking choices you will have to replace them often as wooden basking platforms get pooped on frequently and due to wood being porous it will absorb bacteria. Also feeder bugs love to hide in the natural holes. For flooring choices see the page on substrate.
Dishes
Food and water dishes should be chosen with care and not just grabbed out of a cabinet at home. You need a reptile safe bowl that can stand up to heat and will not break easily. Glass and cheap plastic are very bad idea for food and water dishes as they can melt or chip causing burns and cuts. Always make sure your dishes are shallow with a baby dragon to prevent drowning.
Decorations
It is understandable that dragon owners want cool decorations for their enclosures. They want their dragon to feel at home and for the cage to be aesthetically pleasing. When choosing additional decor make sure that it can withstand high heat if kicked into the basking area and make sure pieces will not break off if bitten. This can cause sever burns and choking and make sure that there is nothing with sharp edges that can cut your dragon. Also try to avoid decorations that have too many small spaces/gaps as feeder bugs will hide away in them.
Dangerous Decor
Plastic and cloth crafting flowers are very dangerous for dragons as they fall apart and can be bitten off easily. Ingesting glitter or small gems from these flowers can be fatal as well. These may look pretty but they are not intended for high heat or being bit by a dragon that may think they are food. Small rocks/pebbles are deadly to a dragon if eaten and should never be in a cage under any circumstances. Sharp natural rocks can have dangerous edges which can cause injury to your dragon. And some can become very hot holding in way too much heat from your basking lamp, choose them with care. Fish tank decor can be OK in a dragon cage under 1 circumstance: IT REMAINS ON THE COOL SIDE ONLY and never sits under the heat light. Almost all fish tank decorations are made with resin, which is not meant for high heat and will burn your dragon and in some cases can release toxic fumes under high heat. Glass decor should NEVER be used inside a dragon enclosure, it will over heat and burn them and it can also get small cracks trapping germs. Children's toys should never be placed in a dragons enclosure on a permanent basis. The paint and plastic can chip and be eaten which will be fatal to your dragon. And these toys are not intended for high heat and can burn your dragon as well.
